Profound Cloud Announces Annual MSPmentor 501 List Ranking the Top Managed Service Providers in Information Technology
Posted by Jason Etter on Friday, June 17, 2016
First unveiled in 2007, the 2016 edition includes a number of improvements and refinements to ensure that the annual ranking is the most complete, precise and forward-looking study available on the managed service provider market. This year’s list and study examines the business models, technologies, vertical markets and customer segments that matter most to MSP companies.
The 2016 MSP 501 leverages a new and improved methodology that is being made public for the first time. The new ranking algorithm distinguishes the MSP 501 as the definitive benchmark by which MSP organizations can be compared, year after year. In addition to a ranking on the MSP 501 list, every company that participated in the study has been assigned a score reflecting its intrinsic value. The measure, known as the Clarity Total Service Provider (TSP) score, evaluates an MSP’s mix of revenue from various services activities, including consulting, cloud, reselling and managed services.
Profound Cloud’s rankings:
- MSPmentor 100, Small Business Edition Honoring MSPs with 10 or fewer employees
- In this category, we ranked #85 and was listed as a Tier 2 business
- MSPmentor 501, Global Edition
- In this category, we ranked #440 and was listed as a Tier 2 business
How we were ranked

Recognizing that not all revenue is the same—revenue from hardware resell, for example, is generally not as profitable as revenue from managed services—they weighted revenue from different go-to-market activities before making our calculation:
Ok, so what does Tier 2 mean?
A Clarity TSP Index tier score is measure of a company’s potential based on services revenue and productivity (measured by sales-per-employee). Clarity divided the scores into four tiers, 1, 2, 3 and 4, respectively.
The tiers were defined as follows:
